Surprise birthday party invitation: the save the date that keeps the secret
Throwing a surprise birthday party is mostly about telling everyone… without the guest of honor finding out. Cardiboo's save the date has a box just for that: “🤫 It's a surprise”. Your guests get “Surprise save the date! Shh, don't tell Jake”, scratch to reveal the date, and see the reminder “don't tell Jake!” in big letters.
Free, no sign-up, and the age can show up in gold balloons.
Free, no sign-up. Cards and photos delete themselves after 90 days.
How to make it, step by step
- Open the machine with the button below: “Save the date”, the “Birthday” event and the “🤫 It's a surprise” box are already set.
- Type the name of the guest of honor, and their age if you like (“40!” in gold balloons).
- Pick the date and the town, then fill in “Who is it for?”: the person nobody tells. Keep “📋 Ask “Will you be there?”” ticked to see who is coming.
- Pull the lever for the animation and write your message (“time and place coming soon, not a word!”).
- Send the link to your guests, one by one or in a group chat… that does not include the guest of honor.
What your guests see
- The message starts with “🤫 Surprise save the date!” and reminds them to keep quiet.
- The envelope says “A surprise is in the works… shh! 🤫” and “It's a surprise: don't tell Jake!”.
- They scratch to reveal the date, see the countdown and can add it to their calendar: the event is saved as “… (surprise 🤫)”, so nobody gives it away by leaving their calendar open.
The golden rules of a surprise party
- A group without the guest of honor: check the list twice before sending, especially in a family group chat.
- An accomplice: someone close brings the person to the right place at the right time, with a believable excuse.
- Tell early, detail late: the date first, with this save the date; the exact time and place a few days before.
- A plan B in case the guest of honor makes other plans that day: the accomplice can “book” their evening well in advance.
And on the big day
For the card itself, make an animated birthday ecard with their face on a superhero, or even better: a card every guest signs, to show them at the party.
Frequently asked questions
Could the guest of honor stumble on the invitation?
Only if someone forwards them the link: nothing is published or sent anywhere other than where you send it. That's why the card reminds everyone not to tell them.
Do I have to say who the surprise is for?
It's optional: without a name, the card simply says “shh, keep the secret!”.
Does it work for more than birthdays?
Yes, the “🤫 It's a surprise” box exists on every save the date: farewell party, retirement, engagement, housewarming…
Is it free?
Yes, no account and no payment. The invitation deletes itself after 90 days.
