Free animated save the date: your guests scratch to reveal the date

A save the date has one job: getting guests to block the date before the invitation arrives. Cardiboo turns it into a little game. Your guests get “Save the date! Emma & Jack have big news for you”, watch the animation, scratch to reveal the date, then add it to their calendar in one tap.

It's free, there's no account, and you can put both your real faces on the bride and groom costumes.

Make my save the date

Free, no sign-up. Cards and photos delete themselves after 90 days.

How to make it, step by step

  1. Open the machine on “Save the date”: the button below already picks “Wedding”.
  2. Type your names (“Emma & Jack”): the wording switches to plural on its own.
  3. Pick the date, and the town if you like (“Napa, CA”).
  4. Add your two faces if you want: bride + groom, two grooms or two brides.
  5. Pull the lever for the animation, then write your message (“formal invitation to follow”).
  6. Send the link to your guests, one by one or in a group chat: the same link works for everyone.

What your guests see

  1. An envelope: “Emma & Jack have big news for you…”
  2. The animation, with your names in big letters.
  3. A ticket: “Scratch to reveal the date ✨”.
  4. The full date, the town, and a countdown (“Only 247 days to go!”) worked out on the day they open it.
  5. “📅 Add to my calendar” (iPhone, Outlook or Google Calendar) and “🙌 I'll be there!”, which sends you a cheerful reply.

See who is coming, no spreadsheet needed

The “📋 Ask “Will you be there?”” option is on by default. Each guest answers in one tap: “✅ I'll be there!”, “🤔 Maybe” or “❌ I can't make it”, then adds their name, “How many people in total?” and, if they like, “A little message?”. They can change their answer later from the same phone.

On your side, the “📋 See who's coming” button opens your private “Who's coming? 📋” page: yes / maybe / no totals, the head count, the list, and “📋 Copy the list” to paste into your spreadsheet or group chat. The list is closed by default (only you see it); you can open it with “👀 Guests can see the list”: guests then see names and answers, never the little messages. No account and no email address, for you or for them.

When to send a save the date

The most common advice is six to eight months before the wedding, and closer to a year ahead for a destination wedding or a holiday weekend, when guests need to book flights and time off. The formal invitation, with times, venues and RSVP details, usually follows six to eight weeks before.

What to include: your names, the date, the town, and a note that the invitation will follow. No need for the full schedule yet.

Not just for weddings

Planning a party behind someone's back? Tick “🤫 It's a surprise”: see the surprise birthday party invitation.

The same save the date works for an engagement party, a civil partnership, a birthday (with the age in gold balloons), a christening, a first communion, a housewarming, a farewell or retirement party, a bachelor or bachelorette party, a baby shower, a family reunion, a party, or any event you name yourself. For a big birthday, see also the animated birthday ecard; for someone leaving work, the card the whole team signs.

Frequently asked questions

Does a save the date replace the invitation?

No. It announces the date so people can hold it. The invitation, sent later, gives the time, the venues and how to RSVP.

Can we add both our faces?

Yes: for a wedding, civil partnership or engagement, the card holds two faces on the bride and groom costumes, plus up to four more for family.

How do guests add it to their calendar?

After scratching, the “📅 Add to my calendar” button offers a file for iPhone and Outlook, or a Google Calendar link.

Can I see who is coming?

Yes: guests answer “I'll be there!”, “Maybe” or “I can't make it” with a head count, and you follow everything on your private “Who's coming? 📋” page. Answers are deleted with the card after 90 days.

How many guests can receive it?

As many as you like: the same link works for everyone. It stays valid for 90 days, then the card deletes itself.

Is it free?

Yes, no account and no payment.
