Tell the grandparents-to-be with a scratch-off pregnancy announcement

Your mom gets “Mom, I have some news for you… Scratch to find out”. She opens the envelope, watches the animation, scratches the screen… and reads “You're going to be a grandmother!”.

Cardiboo sets up that moment in a minute, for free. It's perfect when the grandparents-to-be live far away, and just as fun when you hand them your phone at dinner.

How to make it, step by step

  1. Open the machine on “Baby news”: the button below already picks “You're going to be a grandmother!”.
  2. Change the line if needed: grandfather, Granny, Grandpa, auntie, uncle, big sister, big brother, great-grandmother… or write your own.
  3. Add the due date if you like (“Due in June”): it shows under the news.
  4. Type the name of the person who will scratch, then pull the lever to pick the animation.
  5. Write a short message and sign it (“Emma & Jack”).
  6. Send the link by text, WhatsApp or email, or keep it to open together.

Ready-made lines to scratch

  • For the grandparents-to-be: “You're going to be a grandmother!”, “You're going to be a grandfather!”, “You're going to be a Granny!”, “You're going to be a Grandpa!”
  • For great-grandma: “You're going to be a great-grandmother!”
  • For aunts, uncles and siblings: “You're going to be an auntie!”, “You're going to be an uncle!”, “You're going to be a big sister!”, “You're going to be a big brother!”
  • For everyone: “We're expecting a baby!”

In the UK you might prefer “You're going to be a Nan!” or “Grandad”: type it in the “Or write your own” field. Each card carries the person's name, so make one for your mom and another for your dad: they each get their own surprise.

Making the moment work

  • From far away, start a video call and ask them to open the link while you watch their reaction live.
  • In person, make the card first, then hand over your phone and simply say “look, we made you a card”.
  • The right time is a personal choice. Many couples wait for the first-trimester scan before telling people beyond their closest circle.
  • Holidays coming up? Slip the news into your season's greetings: an animated Christmas ecard can come right before the scratch card.

The next chapter

A few months later, the gender reveal scratch-off card reveals boy or girl the same way. And to ask someone to be the godmother or godfather, the proposal card where “No” runs away offers “Will you be the godmother?” and “Will you be the godfather?”.

Frequently asked questions

Does the message give the news away?

No: it says “I have some news for you… Scratch to find out”. The line only appears after scratching.

What if Grandma can't scratch?

A “Show me” button under the ticket reveals the news in one go. On a computer, you scratch with the mouse.

Can I write my own line?

Yes, in the “Or write your own” field (up to 70 characters), for example “You're going to be a grandma… again!”.

Do I need an account?

No. The card is free, needs no sign-up, and deletes itself after 90 days.
